Description
This watch is a 1905 Elgin Grade 348 railroad-approved pocket watch, produced in 18-size with a 21-jewel manual-wind movement and lever-set mechanism. The movement is adjusted and was officially railroad grade, intended for use in a full hunter case configuration. It is housed in a gold-filled case, with hinges that open cleanly to approximately ninety degrees. The watch is reported to be running, especially notable given its age. The dial is a decorative fancy style and shows a vertical hairline crack, which is disclosed as part of its original condition. Overall, the watch is described as being in excellent condition for its age, representing a high-quality example of Elgin’s early 20th-century railroad-grade craftsmanship.
Watch face: 38 mm.
Overall case: 1 3/8" x 1 7/8".
Weight: 59.3 g.
Gold-filled case with visible surface wear and scratches from age. Dial shows normal age characteristics. The front cover may pop back when closing but does lock once fully secured.
