Description
A very nice antique solid 14K yellow gold pocket watch chain with a 1837 copper "Hard Time" token. The chain has inner link interlock two larger link, textured, 6.0mm. T-bar 1 3/4" with spring hook, they have no hallmark, tested for 14K. A 1837 copper "Hard Time" token attached on the fob spring hook (not gold). The chain weight 38.5g, the token weight 8.5 grams.
The old copper "Hard Times" token is in quite fine condition overall, measuring app. 1 & 1/8" across, with a plain edge. This attractive merchant piece from America's early financial crisis shows just mild wear, with only some tiny imperfections nothing overly distracting, and I have not cleaned it in any manner, three of the photos having been "enhanced" for clarity. The Rulau reference is HT 315. The obverse features a clock face reading 10:14, "Time Is Money" around the middle. The reverse reads "Smith's Clock Establishment - No. 7 1/2 Bowery - New York - 1837", with small leafy ornaments at the sides. Lovely! (A hole drilled on top hanging as fob)
