Elegant antique 15K yellow gold brooch centered with a large oval bloodstone plaque decorated with an applied floral spray set with antique rose-cut diamonds and cabochon rubies. The dark green bloodstone shows natural reddish inclusions and creates a dramatic background for the delicate gemstone flowers. An elaborate openwork gold surround of flowing vine-like loops gives the brooch a distinctly late Victorian to Edwardian character. The substantial 15g weight and unusually large bloodstone make this an impressive period jewel. The gold content was confirmed by XRF testing.
