Description
Offered is a magnificent and scarce antique French oyster plate by Théodore Haviland, produced in Limoges, France in the 1890s. The plate features five raised, hand-painted white and gold seaweed motifs arranged in a striking star-like composition, complemented by a scalloped, molded rim trimmed in fine gold. Designed with five oyster wells and a central well for lemon or sauce, it reflects both elegance and function typical of late 19th-century French tableware. The underside is clearly marked, as shown in the photographs. The plate is in excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks; a faint age line is present on the center back, not through the porcelain, and noted for accuracy only. It measures 8.75 inches in diameter, an ideal size for both display and use.
