Description
Beautiful late 19th-century French porcelain oyster plate with six deeply molded shell-shaped wells surrounding a central sauce or lemon well. Each shell is softly shaded pink and decorated with a hand-painted purple, lavender and yellow oyster detail, set against a textured gray-green seaweed ground. The center well is accented with a fine gilt rim. This appears to be the same late-1800s French form often attributed to Limoges, but since yours is unmarked I would not list Limoges as the maker. A very attractive collector plate with strong dimensional molding.
