Description
Beautiful antique Japanese Nippon porcelain oyster plate with six molded oyster wells surrounding a central sauce well. Hand painted with delicate violet and pink floral sprays over a pale aqua ground, with extensive raised gold-gilt decoration and a deeply scalloped rim. Comparable Nippon oyster plates of this six-well form are documented as early Japanese export porcelain.
The underside bears a “Hand Painted Nippon” hourglass-in-wreath backstamp. This type of Nippon mark is associated with Japanese export porcelain from the Nippon period; collectors generally date “Nippon”-marked export wares to before the 1921 U.S. marking change.
Size: Approx. 9" diameter
Condition: Mint antique condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs observed. Gold decoration remains exceptionally strong and bright.
Era: Circa 1910–1921
