Elegant antique porcelain oyster plate in an unusual octagonal form, featuring five deeply molded oyster wells surrounding a separate scallop-shell condiment well. The soft ivory and blush-pink shells contrast beautifully against a powder-blue ground. The sculptural molded design and pastel coloration are characteristic of late 19th- to early 20th-century oyster service ware. The underside is unmarked. This is the same mold as A1230 in a different colorway. Comparable period records describe unattributed octagonal five-well porcelain oyster plates of approximately 8 inches dating from 1876–1925.
