French Faience Majolica Oyster Plate Ribet Martres-Tolosane Floral design A1249

Beautiful vintage French faience oyster plate from Martres-Tolosane, decorated in the Moustiers style with six molded oyster wells surrounding a floral center medallion. Hand-painted cobalt blue outlines are accented with green, orange, yellow and soft lavender flowers on a creamy white ground. The scalloped form and raised shell-shaped wells give the plate wonderful dimension. The underside is hand-marked “Martres.” Comparable Martres-Tolosane oyster plates are generally attributed to around the 1940s.
