Description
This striking French oyster plate dates to the Belle Époque period, circa 1890–1910, and reflects the era’s fascination with naturalistic marine presentation. The sculptural form features six deep oyster wells arranged around a central sauce well, each interior hand-painted with a realistic oyster motif in warm, natural tones. The glossy white wells are dramatically set against a contrasting black ground modeled to resemble seaweed or coastal rock, creating depth and visual movement. The plate is lightweight yet finely potted, with softly undulating contours and a fluid, organic silhouette characteristic of turn-of-the-century French tableware. An elegant and increasingly scarce example of early oyster service ware, well suited for refined display or collection.
