Description
A simply gorgeous GDA Limoges oyster plate, handpainted with strewn pink flowers—possibly carnations—and elegantly set off with gold trim. This particular 5-well oyster plate design is shown on p. 169 of "The Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain," 3rd ed., by Mary Frank Gaston.
It is signed with the GDA (Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot) Limoges underglaze mark in green (Mark 1), used until about 1941, and also with the red overglaze mark used after 1941, indicating production right around 1940. Gerard, Dufraisseix & Abbot was a successor to the Charles Field Haviland company after Charles Field retired from the business.
Size: 8-3/4" diameter, in excellent condition
