Description

Kokeshi dolls have been a part of Japanese folk handicrafts for centuries. They are believed to have become prominent in the Edo period in the latter part of the 17th century.
They were made for souvenirs, decorations, and children's toys. During the Edo period, they were presented to children as guardians.
This lovely Kokeshi doll from circa 1990-2000 was by Kojo Tanaka with the title "Niigata" in Japanese, meaning 新潟, her kimoto handpainted in white and red cherry blossom, included in her inner garment. She is 7.0" tall and 3.0" wide; there are minor scratches, no color loss, and two minor cracks on the base. Overall, it is in good condition
