Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi Doll Sato no Musume by Kenichi Murakami 16 cm A738

This is a vintage Japanese sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll, specifically the "Sato no Musume" (Village Girl) design by award-winning artist Kenichi Murakami. 

The doll features a minimalist design that emphasizes the natural wood color and grain. 
Facial features and the kimono design are applied using pyrography (burning the design into the wood with a heated pen). 

The hair and body have deep, carved horizontal lines to create a distinct texture and visual focus. 

Murakami began creating kokeshi in the mid-1940s after initially studying oil painting, and his works are highly collectible.
